Accordingly, the Real Madrid authorities are preparing to replace him with a younger player. The German contract for the Santiago Bernabeu expires in June 2023 and there are no indications that it will be extended.

According to the Catalan portal El Nacional, the favorite to replace him is Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan. A great enthusiast of this idea is himself, who is trying to persuade the club’s authorities to transfer this player. The Italian representative would significantly lower the rather high average age of the center of the field for the Spanish runners-up and bring a lot of freshness.
The transfer, however, will probably involve a huge expense. The Transfermarkt portal is currently valuing the Italian at EUR 70 million, but due to the fact that his contract with Inter is valid until June 2026, this amount may increase significantly – up to EUR 80 million. Catalan journalists suspect that if this transaction is successful, Toni Kroos will not wait until the end of the contract and will say goodbye to Madrid this summer.
Nicolo Barella is one of the most important players of both the Italian national team, with which he triumphed at the last European championship. The 25-year-old has been playing for Milan since September 2020 and has so far played 124 games there, scoring nine goals and 31 assists.
