The FIFA extended this Wednesday to Ukrainian players the possibility, opened last week to foreign players and coaches in Ukraine and Russiato sign contracts in other places without waiting for the opening of an official transfer period.
Ukrainian footballers who manage to leave the country will be able to “register with another club” even though the window for new registrations is closed, FIFA said.
A general mobilization has been declared in Ukraine and men between the ages of 18 and 60 must in principle remain in the country, so it will be necessary for footballers to be “authorized” to leave “according to the current rules on cross-border movements of Ukrainian nationals”, specified the international organization.
Each club will be limited to two the number of professionals it receives and who are concerned by this exemption, which is detailed in an annex to the regulations on the status of players affected by the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Last week, the The FIFA Council suspended the contracts of foreign players and coaches employed at the Russian and Ukrainian championshipsuntil the end of the season.
Russia is isolated in the sports world and deprived of international competitions. The objective of the FIFA measure is to “facilitate the exit” of all those who have not reached an agreement with their clubs, explained the world body.
They will therefore have “the right to unilaterally suspend their employment contract” until June 30, 2022 and will be able to join another formation from another championship until April 7.
Foreign players and coaches in Ukraine benefit from the same provision to allow them “work and get paid” and “protecting Ukrainian clubs”, on a break forced by the conflict. (D)
