Nurmagomedov stood up for former UFC champion Velasquez, accused of attempted murder

Russian mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Khabib Nurmagomedov defended Cain Velasquez, who is accused of attempted murder. It is reported by ESPN.

Nurmagomedov, as well as the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, wrote letters to the court, where they stood up for the 39-year-old former UFC heavyweight champion. In total, the court received 34 letters, where Velazquez is characterized positively. “Kane is an honest and kind person who will do anything for family and friends. A man whom many would like to see on their side, ”Nurmagomedov said in a letter about Velasquez.

On March 7, the court denied Velasquez release on bail. The fighter opened fire, as a result of which one person was injured. As it became known after the arrest of the athlete, he knew the victim of the attack – 43-year-old American Harry Goulart.

The latter is suspected of molesting a minor family member of the former UFC champion. Velazquez rammed his car and opened fire, injuring Goulart’s stepfather.

Nurmagomedov and Velasquez are American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) fighters. After completing his career, the Russian began working at AKA along with fellow ex-UFC champion Daniel Cormier and head coach Javier Mendez.

Velasquez has 14 wins and three losses in professional MMA. After retiring from the sport, he competed in wrestling.
