The US State Department announced the imposition of sanctions against 11 senior representatives of the Russian defense sector. The sanctions list includes the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov, the director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) Dmitry Shugaev, the general director of Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheev, as well as eight deputy defense ministers of the Russian Federation.
According to the statement of the State Department, sanctions are imposed against those who conducted or conduct activities in the defense and related sectors of the Russian economy, related to the production of military products.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
