The 77th edition of La Vueltawhich will be played between August 19 and September 11, will have a total of 23 teams and 184 runners after the UCI has allowed, for this La Vuelta 22, a greater registration and the invitation to three teams with a Spanish license.
In this way Euskaltel-Euskadi, Kern Pharma Team and Burgos-BH (he is left uninvited Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).
The registration limitations of the UCI would have prevented La Vuelta from inviting these teams, but a temporary derogation from article 2.2.002 of the UCI regulations authorized the Spanish round to have up to 184 runners and 23 teams.
Lap 22, which will have its start in Utrecht (The Netherlands) and will arrive in Madrid, will have all the 18 UCI WorldTour teams, the highest category, which automatically enter the race and with the Movistar Team as the only Spanish.
Additionally, the teams Alpecin-Fenix of Belgium and the Arkéa-Samsic from France, as leaders of the UCI ProTeams classification in 2021, will also participate in La Vuelta 22.
