The Russian team, which was supposed to take part in the Winter Paralympic Games, flew from Beijing to Moscow. This is reported by the correspondent of Lenta.ru.
It is noted that the Russian delegation at the Games included 71 athletes: 33 athletes represented cross-country skiing and biathlon, 17 sledge hockey teams, ten skiers, six snowboarders and five athletes representing wheelchair curling.
On March 3, the International Paralympic Committee refused to allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2022 Games. The decision was changed due to the fact that the national committees opposed the participation of Russians in the competition. Russia called the decision illegal.
The official opening ceremony of the competition took place on Friday, March 4. The event was directed by Zhang Yimou, who performed in the same capacity at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital. The competition will run through March 14th. Athletes will compete for 78 sets of medals in six sports.
