Chelsea visited Burnley this Saturday and applied a 4-0 rout in a match valid for the English Premier League. The team now increases the advantage over Manchester United, but remains in third position, with 53 points. Burnley, in turn, misses the chance to leave the relegation zone and follows in 18th place.
The game started truncated and with few chances. Burnley had the first chance of danger in the 16th minute, when Lennon advanced down the right and rolled towards Weghorst. The Dutchman finished, but the Brazilian Thiago Silva cleared the ball close to the goal line.
Chelsea then responded shortly thereafter. Defender Rudiger risked a shot from outside the area, defended by goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Thomas Tuchel’s team took control of the game, counting on high ball possession and pressing the opponent against their area, but having difficulties to advance with the ball.
The hosts returned to scare only after 30 minutes. After a “balloon” in the area, goalkeeper Mendy missed and the ball was left with McNeil, who ended up kicking it out.
In the second half, the game that seemed difficult for the Blues, changed after the entry of forward Reece James. After two minutes, the Englishman received the ball on the right, put the marker to dance and hit the corner to open the scoring.
Five minutes later, it was Pulisic’s turn to receive from there and cross in the head of Kai Havertz, who took it off the goalkeeper and extended the score. And it didn’t take long for the third to come out. In the 10th minute, Reece James again advanced down the right, but this time he rolled to Havertz, in the center of the area. The German just played for the goal and increased the advantage.
Burnley even tried to react, but could not decrease and just gave more space to Chelsea. At 25, Saúl received a free kick on the left and crossed into the area. Defender Tarkowski failed and gave the ball for free to Pulisic, who only had the job of hitting the archer’s exit and cementing the rout.
Chelsea’s next commitment is against Norwich City, this Thursday, at 16:30 (GMT).
