The fans in Katowice loved him. He loved Poland

Winning at IEM Katowice is every Counter Strike player’s dream. Various stories are associated with the ten-year tradition of events, both winners and losers. Finn “karrigan” Andersen has participated in many of them. However, he never achieved the desired success. He reached the final twice, but was not able to raise the cup. His pursuit of success became his obsession.

A veteran of the CS: GO scene

Finn Andersen is present in CS: GO from the very beginning of the game. Duñczyk is a real counter-strike veteran. For years, he represented the colors of the largest esports organizations. He started with MOUZ and Fnatic. Then he moved to native bands, complementing the Danish line-up of Copenhagen Flames, Team SoloMid and Astralis. Although it was there that he achieved his first serious successes, in 2016 he returned to international teams.

He made a name for himself as a leader of English-speaking teams. “Karrigan” has established itself as one of the best CS: GO leaders. He proved that the role of an in-game leader is of great importance in modern Counter Strike. The game is influenced not only by the elimination, accuracy or effectiveness of individual players, but also by tactical investigation of the opponent.

Andersen could always do this. He is an intelligent player who has a lot of games up his sleeve. He can skillfully set up colleagues and prepare them for a prepared plan. He thinks a few seconds faster than his opponents, and this in CS: GO can be of great importance. Even though Duñczyk is not at the fore in terms of mechanical skills, his tactical sense enjoys great and universal respect among the observers of the scene.

The curse of Katowice

“Karrigan” knows the taste of winning at the highest level. Over the years, he has won various trophies. He won at the Moscow EPICENTER, IEM Sydney or ESL New York. The display case still lacked the prestigious and desirable Katowice.

And Danczyk has been for a hair from success many times. This year’s edition was his eighth appearance in the Katowice tournament. It reached the final twice – in 2017 and 2018. He lost both decisive matches. Such an excellent and well-deserved player was still chasing success, which was constantly taking him away from him.

It seemed that the FaZe Clan headed by the “karrigan” would not break its curse this year. The team was plagued by coronavirus cases from the start. First he caught Robin “ropz” Kool, and just before the decisive phase, Håvard “rain” Nygaard was out of the game. First, the Estonian, and then the Norwegian, was replaced by Justin “jks” Savage. The very fact of the necessity to find a substitute player put FaZe in the eyes of many in a losing position.

Favorite of the crowd

True masters, however, cannot hide behind excuses. FaZe fought bitterly for his own in Katowice. They went through the initial play-in without mistakes, and then qualified for the quarter-finals. Before the audience in Spodek, they were not going to slow down. They easily eliminated the defenders of the Gambit title. The semi-final with Heroic did not make them difficult either. FaZe Clan was on the way to the final pair.

All this time the band only rose in the eyes of the audience. They played nice, very harmonious and effective. Even though they came out with the substitute, they did not show any weakness. They were carried by the vision of making their dreams come true. Victory that would go down in the history of CS: GO.

The “karrigan” itself made the image of the squad even more warm in the eyes of the fans. The Duñczyk is well known for its nice and warm nature. Always engages in interaction with the public, motivating to doping. This year, he stole the hearts of Polish fans above all, entering the stage wearing a characteristic white and red hat. As it turned out later, it was given to him by blogger Damian “DD” Dąbrowski. The FaZe host couldn’t have chosen a better time to get her out of the closet. Such accents always bring a smile to the face, especially when it concerns the host country.

Objective achieved

The FaZe final from G2 Esports is one of the best CS: GO games Spodek has ever seen. Although the clash was closed in three of the possible five maps, the emotions reached their peak more than once. A total of six extra times was needed, and the Mirage map itself became the longest single game played in the history of IEM Katowice (2 hours and 6 minutes).

Ultimately, it was the “karrigan” line-up that emerged victorious from the struggle. Shortly after the triumph, Duñczyk fell to his knees. His long-term dream has finally come true. The shed tears and sweat turned into success which he followed throughout his career. A success that didn’t seem to be given to him. The whole Spodek was chanting his name.

I was in the final in Katowice for the third time. I should have won it in 2018. Now I’m back and got this trophy. The dream came true. Poland: I love you! This is the best experience of my career. With this audience, the situation we were put into is amazing. I told myself that I could not lose again.

The success for “karrigan” was additionally of exceptional importance because his fiancée is Polish. She accompanied him and the team all the time during the competition in Spodek. After all, Danczyk did not hide his emotions, and the photos taken during the tournament prove that the presence of the person closest to him only gave him wings, leading to the desired goal.
