Russia will continue a special military operation in Ukraine until the achievement of its goals. This, according to TASS, was stated by the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

“The grouping of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will continue to conduct a special military operation until the goals are achieved,” he said.

According to Shoigu, the main task of this operation is to protect Russia from the military threat from Western countries, which “are trying to use the Ukrainian people in the fight against our country.”

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to an appeal from the leaders of the Donbass republics, announced a special military operation. On the eve of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations held talks that have not yet become final. In a telephone conversation, Putin told French President Emmanuel Macron that Russia is open to negotiations with representatives of Ukraine, but “a settlement in Ukraine is possible with its demilitarization and denazification, neutral status and recognition of Crimea,” and with unconditional consideration of Russia’s legitimate security interests. The head of the Russian state added that “the threat comes from Ukrainian nationalists who use civilians as human shields, shelling the cities of Donbass,” and “the Russian armed forces do not threaten civilians and do not strike at civilian targets in Ukraine.”
