Ukrainians react to Lewandowski’s gesture. Shakhtar’s eloquent entry. And it’s in Polish

On Saturday evening he defeated Eintracht 1-0 in Frankfurt. The only goal for the champions of Germany was scored, however, not by Robert Lewandowski, but by Leroy Sane. The Pole, however, drew the attention of fans and observers with something other than his attitude on the pitch.

Robert Lewandowski with a clear opinion on Russian aggression. Ukrainians thank you

In Frankfurt, Robert Lewandowski had two armbands on his shoulders. One was the Bayern Munich captain’s armband, as Lewandowski was captain of the German champions in the absence of Thomas Mueller and Manuel Neuer. On the other arm, in turn, there was a yellow-blue band in the colors of Ukraine. This, of course, was an expression of support for Russia’s aggression against their country.

After the meeting, he commented briefly on Twitter. – As an athlete, I cannot pretend that nothing is happening – wrote the captain of the Polish national team with the publication of his photo with the mentioned armband.

His gesture did not pass without noticing. The Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk praised the captain on Twitter. – Thank you, Robert Lewandowski. Thank you Bayern Munich – they wrote in the post.

The current situation is of particular importance to the representatives of Shakhtar. Their story is very sad and has been going on since 2014. Then they took Donetsk, and then blew up the stadium where the club’s players played. As a result, they had to move to Lviv and then Kharkiv.

Let us recall that on Saturday Robert Lewandowski and the entire Polish national team announced that they were not going to play with Russia in the March play-offs for the world championship in Qatar.

– Right decision! I cannot imagine playing a match with the Russian national team in a situation when armed aggression in Ukraine continues. Russian footballers and fans are not responsible for this, but we cannot pretend that nothing is happening – wrote Lewandowski.
