British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to put the Russian deterrence forces on a special mode of combat duty is intended to “divert attention” from events in Ukraine.

“I think this is a distraction from the reality of what is happening in Ukraine,” said the British prime minister, quoted by TASS with reference to the PA agency.

Johnson also added that he would take positively the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine, but at the moment he doubts its success.

Recall that the day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the transfer of the Russian deterrence forces to a special mode of service, explaining this decision by the fact that “top officials of the leading NATO countries also allow aggressive statements against our country.” These forces are based on the strategic nuclear forces, which include the Strategic Rocket Forces.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”

In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
