Against the backdrop of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the Norwegian authorities decided to join the EU sanctions against the Russian Federation. This was stated by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere, reports tv2.no.

According to him, Norway will also supply military equipment to Ukraine, although “it usually does not do this for countries at war.” Also, the country will allocate 2 million crowns to Kiev, media reports.

Earlier, the Swedish authorities announced that they would supply military equipment to Ukraine, including the country will send five thousand grenade launchers, 135 thousand field rations, five thousand helmets, five thousand body armor and five thousand disposable anti-tank grenade launchers. The military is also provided with financial support in the amount of 400 million crowns or $42.78 million, Reuters reported. At the same time, the Finnish authorities at an emergency meeting decided to allow Estonia to supply Kiev with 122-mm howitzers, Yle reported. Finland will also send 2,000 body armor, 2,000 helmets, 100 stretchers and first aid supplies to Ukraine, while Belgium will supply Ukraine with 3,000 rifles and 200 anti-tank weapons.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. A number of European countries have imposed bans on the flights of Russian aircraft, including Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, France and North Macedonia, Canada, Spain, Portugal. A little later, the head of the European Commission announced that the EU would close airspace for all Russian aircraft, including private ones.
