The opportunity for a small rematch came quite quickly. The two met in the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Mexico. In the first set, Nadal was the first to break. Thanks to this, he took the lead 4: 1. It was enough and after 48 minutes he closed the first batch. The second one started very badly for Medvedev. Already in the first game, Nadal scored it and got a break. This time the Spaniard had more problems with keeping his pass, because the Russian had a lot of balls to break in the second set. A total of eleven, of which seven in the sixth game. Medvedev did not use any of them. Not only that – in the ninth game he lost his application again, and thus the entire match 3: 6, 3: 6. It was his fifth defeat against Nadal (he only won once). The duel lasted 121 minutes.

Despite the defeat, Medvedev will take the lead in the ATP ranking on Monday. He will overtake Serb Novak Djokovic, who was unexpectedly eliminated in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Dubai.

A surprise in the second semi-final. Norrie before the chance of a lifetime

There was a surprise in the second semi-final. Cameron Norrie (ATP 12th) defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 4th) in one hour and less than 20 minutes. In the first set, both players were flawless at their services. In the end, Tsitsipas made a mistake, who was broken in the ninth game. It was the only break point in this set. The Greek lost the first set 4: 6. The second edition had a very similar course. Again, both tennis players were right about their service and Tsitsipas lost the pass again in the ninth game. Norrie took advantage of this again and won the second game 6: 4. Thus, the Briton repaid last year’s final of the 250 competition on clay courts in Lyon.

Rafael Nadal and Cameron Norrie will face each other in the final match on Saturday. For Nadal, this is a chance for a third title this season. On the other hand, Norrie can win a second tournament in a row, having won the Delray Beach Open in Florida last week. If he wins with Nadal, he will be in the top ten of the ranking. In 2021, both tennis players played three times and Nadal won all matches.
