Ewa Swoboda has a terrible 2021 behind her. At the beginning, the athlete obtained a positive test for coronavirus, which meant that she could not start in the indoor European Championships in Toruń. Later, Swoboda’s injury recovered and she was unable to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In 2022, Ewa is doing much better – during the Orlen Cup meeting in Łódź, Swoboda set the Polish record twice. First it covered 60 m in 7.04 s, and then it improved by another 0.04 s.
“Swoboda ran to the finish line with her head turned towards the time board. When she saw the 6.99 she was initially measured, she was speechless. She jumped, held her head and was distrustful. as we know, but Svoboda’s result is the third best European 60-meter result in history. “
Ewa Swoboda is the best in Toruń. She turned out to be faster than the best sprinter in the world
Ewa Swoboda started in the first qualifying heat of 60 m during the Copernicus Cup meeting in Toruń. The 24-year-old won the competition with a result of 7.06 seconds and she had 0.14 seconds advantage over the second British Daryll Neita. Elaine Thompson-Herah, a triple Olympic champion from Tokyo, won the second race. Jamaica, called “Usain Bolt in a skirt”, however, had a time of 7.14 s, or 0.08 s worse than Svoboda.
Ewa Swoboda’s rivalry with Elaine Thompson-Herah lasted from the very beginning of the race. At the beginning, Polka took the lead, but at the end of the race, Jamaica came much closer. Ultimately, Swoboda turned out to be the best, with a score of 7.03 seconds, ahead of Thompson-Herah by 0.01 seconds, setting a new meeting record. After the run, Ewa Swoboda immediately went with the flowers and ran to her parents present in the stands, with whom she enjoyed the victory. It is also worth paying attention to the photo finish, as Jamaica was close to Svoboda.

– I do not know what to say, but I am very happy that there are so many fans in Toruń. See you in Belgrade, right? 7.03 s, wow. Well, it was about winning. I run on the same level all the time. But beating Elaine Thompson-Herah … it built me up a lot. I am very happy. Diet, head, we had to sort out a few things – said Swoboda in an interview with Polsat Sport.
It is also worth paying attention to the attitude of Pia Skrzyszowska, who took third place with the time of 7.14 seconds and set her new record. – I waited until I would run below 7.20 am, I knew I could – said Skrzyszowska after the run.
The sprinter can thus prepare for the indoor world championships in Belgrade, for which she has guaranteed herself qualification during the meeting in Łódź. The championship is scheduled for March 18-20 this year.
