Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to send Russian troops to the Donbass republics is a prerequisite for future operations, said Lieutenant Colonel Simo Pesu of the Finnish Defense Forces Academy.
According to Yle, Pesu stressed that over the past eight years, Ukrainian units and the armed forces of Donbass were “at a distance of combat contact.” In his opinion, the Russian troops sent to the region can be used “to escalate the threat” and further “military maneuvers”, that is, attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Pesu recommended that the Ukrainian troops “be prepared for such actions.”
Recall, on Monday, February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. The Russian authorities also signed treaties of friendship and cooperation with the DNR and LNR. Later they were ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council, as well as the parliaments of the DPR and LPR.
