Carlos Alfaro Moreno, president of Barcelona SC: Match against Universitario de Deportes should be a step forward in improving the team

The previous week, Barcelona Sporting Club had to extend their Copa Libertadores first-phase classification to the penalty shootout –and in Guayaquil– against debutant Montevideo City Torque and, days later, they had to wait until the 90th minute to beat Delfín de Manta –the cetaceans with one man less since 52– on the opening day of the LigaPro Serie A. In this context, the board of directors of the canaries hopes that the next cup match against Universitario de Deportes will be “a step forward” in team improvement.

“We have to keep improving,” said Carlos Alfaro Moreno, president of Barcelona, ​​this Monday at a press conference. “The Copa Libertadores matches are all difficult, complex. Torque was a great rival, he complicated us a lot. Today we have to check that the first objective was achieved and that the match in Manta serves as confidence to continue improving. We are looking for a working. As always when the year begins, with many expectations, many dreams”.

On Wednesday, the team led by coach Fabián Bustos will receive the Peruvians from the U in the first leg of phase 2 of the Conmebol tournament. It will be at the Monumental Banco Pichincha stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Alfaro Moreno is patient regarding the performance of the bullfighter cast: “We have to face Universitario, a tough rival, a giant from his country, so he has his own goals. The next game has to be a step forward in improving performance. There is a nice internal competition to see who ends up consolidating (from the players). In my experience, the eleven ideals are found with the development of competence. It’s very difficult for a team to start with eleven and finish the same way”.

There is consensus regarding expectations in the leadership of the Guayaquil club, as hinted at by Aquiles Álvarez, sports vice president, who justified the starting performance of Bustos’ pupils: “The team had a tough preseason, double shift almost every day. You have to understand that it has to be coupled more and more. We see it better every day. We are left with the improvement of the team as the games go by. We believe that week after week the team will be more attached to the teacher’s idea”.

After receiving the U, Barcelona will do the same with University Technician on matchday 2 of Series A on Saturday (8:00 p.m.). The return against the Peruvians will be on Wednesday, March 2 in Lima.

Agreements

Barcelona agreed on two separate cooperation links with the Sports Federation of Guayas and with the National Lottery, as announced at the press conference on Monday.

With the Fedeguayas, the pact consists of the use of the facilities of the provincial body by the training divisions of the Canarian club. Meanwhile, the BET593 brand joins as a sponsor of the Guayaquil institution. (D)
