Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov called on the Federation Council to revoke the regulations that allow the use of the Russian military abroad. According to him, such a step will help reduce tensions around Ukraine.
The politician pointed out that since 2006, the Federation Council has adopted three resolutions on the use of the Russian Armed Forces abroad. At the same time, the documents do not specify the territory and period of use of the army, which allows it to be used “unlimitedly anywhere in the world.”
“This is contrary to the constitutional principle of participation of the Federation Council in resolving issues on the use of the Russian Armed Forces outside its borders. In fact, decisions on the use of Russian aircraft outside the country’s borders are now solely made by the president,” Rybakov said.
The leader of Yabloko pointed out that now the “threat of Russia’s participation in a big war” is closer than ever, so statesmen should do everything in their power to de-escalate in Donbass.
Meanwhile, more than 15,000 people have already signed Yabloko’s petition against the war with Ukraine, including well-known Russian scientists, politicians and artists. They stressed that “any outcome of the war would be a disaster for Russia.”
