The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has appealed to the International Skating Union (ISU) to review the results of the figure skating team tournament at the Beijing Games. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The head of the ROC, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, disagreed with the decision to consider the results of the team and individual women’s tournaments as preliminary. “The ROC sent a letter to the ISU, in which it stated in detail and reasonably the position that the results of the team tournament are not subject to revision under any circumstances, regardless of the outcome of the disciplinary investigation against the athlete. We will defend this position consistently in any possible proceedings, including in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), if necessary, ”he emphasized readiness. Pozdnyakov explained that under the anti-doping rules, a review of the results could have taken place if the violation had been committed during the Olympic Games.
Earlier it was reported that the International Olympic Committee refused to award the winners of the team figure skaters tournament, in which the Russians became the strongest, due to an investigation into Kamila Valieva. In addition, the organizers of the Games will not hold an awards ceremony if she is among the winners in a personal tournament.
Valieva passed a positive doping test on December 25, 2021, but this became known only on February 9. The athlete was allowed to the individual tournament of the Games by the decision of CAS.
