Former biathlete of the Russian national team Olga Podchufarova explained the problems of the national team. She is quoted by Eurosport.
“We have a very long bench, there is no super leader, but there are a large number of people who are plus or minus equal at the average level,” she said. The ex-biathlete noted that it is not difficult to change one for the other in the team, therefore there is no value of a single athlete. Podchufarova added that as soon as an athlete is out of the national team, he has to deal with all the problems on his own.
Podchufarova is the bronze medalist of the 2017 World Championships in the mixed relay. She also won one sprint victory at the 2016 World Cup. In 2022, the biathlete completed her career.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Russian biathlon team won four medals. In the mixed relay, domestic athletes became bronze medalists. The men’s team became the third in the relay, and the Russian girls won silver in this type of program. The only personal medal was brought by Eduard Latypov, who became the bronze medalist in the pursuit race.
