The use of three drugs to improve the functioning of the heart, traces of which, according to a representative of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), were found in the doping test of figure skater Kamila Valieva, should not lead to serious consequences for the body. This was told to Lente.ru by a cardiologist, Honored Doctor of Russia Yuri Kremnev.
“There will be no harm, the body at that age will decompose everything into molecules, everything will leave the body. Yes, and they give them, as I understand it, not all the time, probably, these are some courses, but this should not be, ”the doctor shared.
Kremnev suggested that drugs can affect oxygen consumption and optimize the work of the heart muscle against the background of heavy loads. “This medicine is for sick people, and I don’t understand why I should give them to healthy people. These are not vitamins after all, the same trimetazidine is given to patients with coronary heart disease, who have an insufficient supply of oxygen to the myocardium. It works in such a way that, even if there is little oxygen, the cells of the heart muscle work, being content with what they have, ”the doctor explained.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that in the doping test of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, three substances were found to improve heart function: the banned trimetazidine, which was previously known, as well as L-carnitine and hypoxen. The publication suggested that these drugs in combination could be aimed at increasing endurance. The International Testing Agency (ITA) officially reported that only one substance, trimetazidine, was found in the athlete’s sample.
