Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), said Monday that he will appeal the FIFA ruling that orders Brazil-Argentina to play again and sanctions four albicelestes players.
“As president of the AFA I am committed to making all the necessary efforts and appealing FIFA’s decision regarding the qualifying match with Brazil. Our priority is the Argentine team. Always,” Tapia wrote on his Twitter social network account.
Minutes before, FIFA announced that the Brazil-Argentina match of the South American qualifiers must be completed, which was suspended on September 5 after five minutes when members of the National Health Surveillance Agency of Brazil entered the field alleging that four Argentine players had falsified information upon entering the country and that they had to remain in isolation.
The Argentines Emiliano Buendía, Emiliano Martínez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero were sanctioned by FIFA with two days of suspension for failing to comply with the regulations “The return of football: protocol for international matches”.
Brazilian health regulations required that people who had been in the United Kingdom, India and South Africa in the last 14 days must comply with a mandatory isolation of ten days and according to the health authorities, the athletes who play in English soccer provided “false information ”.
In addition to the sanctions against the players, the disciplinary commission imposed economic fines on the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for “infractions committed against security and public order” and on the AFA for “failure to comply with its obligations regarding security and public order, preparations for the match and their participation in it”.
In the absence of another two days of the South American qualifiers, which will be played in March, Brazil and Argentina have assured qualification for the World Cup in Qatar.
If there are no changes, the Albiceleste will not be able to count on the four players sanctioned against Venezuela, as a local, and Ecuador, as a visitor. (D)
