Agro-exports in 2021 achieved a record figure of US$ 9,172 million in sales, which represented a growth of 18% compared to placements registered in 2020, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
For example, traditional agricultural exports during the analyzed period reached US$ 843 million, a figure that meant an increase of 16% compared to what was registered in 2020, due to the greater registered shipments of unroasted coffee (US$ 756 million) and sugar (US$ 10 million) whose sales increased by 19% and 82%, respectively.
Meanwhile, non-traditional agro-exports totaled US$8,329 million, an amount 18% higher than what was observed in 2020. The main products in the agro-export ranking were: blueberries US$1,203 million (14% of non-traditional agro-exports), fresh grapes US$ 1,200 million (14%), fresh avocado US$ 1,083 million (13%), fresh asparagus US$ 405 million (4.9%), fresh mango US$ 319 million (3.8%), preparations used for the animal feed US$ 188 million (2.3%), other citrus fruits US$ 164 million (2%), among others.
Also notable were the higher placements of cocoa beans US$148 million (1.8%), bananas including fresh cavendish valery bananas US$147 million (1.8%), frozen mango US$127 million (1 .5%), other fruits US$116 million (1.4%) and other quinoa US$105 million (1.3%). These 12 products together would concentrate 63% of the non-traditional exportable supply.
Meanwhile, the products with the greatest contribution last year were: fresh avocado (+43% growth), blueberries (+20%), fresh grapes (+15%), preparations used for animal feed (+41% ), other food preparations of semolina flour, starch or malt extract (+2.050%), fresh mangoes (+14%), carded or combed fine hair of alpaca or llama (+104%), mucilages of alpaca or llama seeds tare (+194%), raw palm oil (+68%), fresh asparagus (+7.3%), frozen strawberries (+65%), other cocoa beans (+16%), among the main .
Midagri highlighted that the fruit and vegetable sector totaled more than US$ 5,454 million in sales (65% of non-traditional agro-exports) last year, a figure that meant an increase of 19% compared to 2020, mainly due to the opening of new markets and increased demand in the northern hemisphere.
Likewise, the agricultural trade balance in 2021, registered a surplus of US$ 2,983 million, a figure higher by 1.4% compared to the amount registered in 2020.
One of the main aspects of agricultural exports has been the growing participation of products from family farming, which are increasingly conquering international markets and represent between 12% and 15% of sales, highlighting placements of coffee, quinoa, artichokes, banana, among others.

The 10 main destination countries for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, Holland, Spain, England, Chile, China, Germany, Ecuador, Hong Kong, and Canada.
