Three-time Olympic champion, now State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to allow Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva to compete in the individual tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
Rodnina said that she was glad for this 15-year-old athlete the opportunity to participate in competitions. She stressed that Valieva must cope with the psychological pressure. “But this is only a local success. Even if Valieva wins gold, he will have to be defended in the courts. Just like that, no one will leave a medal. There is a problem, ”the deputy warned the figure skater.

Earlier on February 14, CAS lifted Valieva’s temporary suspension. The figure skater was allowed to participate in the individual tournament at the Olympic Games. The reason was the status of the “protected person” of the athlete and the late notification of a positive doping test.
The women’s short program will take place on 15 February. Valieva will perform under the 26th number. The tournament starts at 13:30 Moscow time.
