The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided not to hold the awards ceremony for the medalists of the figure skating team tournament at the 2022 Games in Beijing. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The IOC said that the decision was made in the interests of all athletes, since the innocence of the Russian woman Kamila Valieva, who participated in the team tournament, has not yet been fully proven. It is specified that the figure skater’s doping test gave a positive result, but no anti-doping rule violation was recorded.
Earlier on February 14, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) lifted the temporary suspension from Valieva. The figure skater was allowed to participate in the individual tournament at the Olympic Games. The reason was the status of the “protected person” of the athlete and the late notification of a positive doping test.
Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony following the results of the team tournament of the Olympics. The Russian team, which included Valieva, became the winner in this type of program.
The women’s short program will take place on 15 February. Valieva will perform under the 26th number. The tournament starts at 13:30 Moscow time.
