The entry of illegal drugs into the body of athletes is an ordinary event, said State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova in a conversation with Lenta.ru. She said that substances can get in with toothpaste, lipstick, there were also cases when they were sprinkled by rivals or even teammates.
CAS has denied appeals by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. She has qualified for the individual tournament at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
“In general, what happened is a fairly ordinary event for world athletes. Microdoses of illegal drugs get with toothpaste, with lipstick, through kisses. There were cases when they were sprinkled by rivals. There are many options for getting into the body, but the athletes were still justified: doping is considered as such only when the athlete did everything consciously, when the drug gave him an advantage. Doses of Camila do not provide any benefits, ”said Zhurova.
The deputy concluded that the pressure on the figure skater would still continue. In particular, after the Olympics, it will be necessary to find out exactly how the drug entered the body.
On February 11, the International Testing Agency officially confirmed that Valieva’s December 25 doping test tested positive for the banned trimetazidine. After that, the IOC and WADA filed an appeal with the CAS against the decision to cancel the temporary suspension of the figure skater from the 2022 Olympic Games.
