Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Angelina Melnikova spoke about refereeing at the World Championships in Kitakyushu. Her words are quoted by TASS.
“My disappointment is very great, because the judges did not give me a full base, although in my life I had no problems with this turn, which was not counted to me,” the athlete said. She stressed that the Russian national team filed a protest, but it was rejected, because of which she lost her gold.
Earlier on September 24, the senior coach of the Russian national artistic gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, criticized the refereeing at the World Championships. Rodionenko stated that the judges did not count Melnikova as one of the completed elements and dismissed the protest filed in this regard. In her opinion, the arbitrators took away the gold from the Russian woman.
Earlier on October 24, Melnikova won silver in floor exercise at the World Cup. The winner was the Japanese Mai Murakami. At the same time, the judges initially put her in second place, but the Japanese national team filed a protest, as a result of which Murakami received 0.1 points.
