Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin considers the situation with a positive doping test of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva a misunderstanding. It is reported by TASS.
“We are convinced that we are talking about some kind of misunderstanding. Our sports officials have certain questions about the timing of testing Valieva’s samples. We record these issues and the concerns of our sports officials,” Peskov said.
He also noted that the Kremlin has great respect for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the IOC, and also urged to wait for the completion of the proceedings in the Valieva case.
Earlier, the Russian Olympic Committee made an official statement on Valieva’s doping test. It was found that in December 2021, the skater passed a positive test for the banned drug trimetazidine. At the same time, all subsequent doping tests taken before and during the Olympics turned out to be clean. The ROC clarified that now the athlete has the right, on a general basis, to continue performing at the Olympic Games in Beijing. The IOC filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
