The Polish energy company PGNiG filed a counterclaim against Gazprom with a court of arbitration in Stockholm regarding the reduction in gas prices, submitting a response to the demand of the Russian concern.

According to PGNiG, if the Arbitration Court recognizes the admissibility of changing the price under the contract, the company filed a counterclaim for a price reduction based on PGNiG’s request dated November 1, 2017, TASS reports.

According to the Polish company, in mid-January 2022, Gazprom applied to the Arbitration Court of Stockholm, demanding a change in price conditions for gas supplied under the Yamal contract, as the Russian concern expects an increase in the contract price retroactively from 2017 and from 2020 , notes PRIME.

We also recall that at the end of October last year, PGNiG sent a request to the Russian side to reduce the price of gas under the Yamal contract concluded with Gazprom. Poland asked to revise prices downward, “so that the current market situation is taken into account in the process of repeated negotiations.” At the same time, the head of the company, Pavel Mayevsky, specified that PGNiG has recently observed “an unprecedented increase in natural gas prices on the European wholesale market.”
