Zhurova responded to a journalist from the United States on the words about Valieva “pumped up with the drug”

Svetlana Zhurova, an Olympic champion in speed skating and now a State Duma deputy, responded to American journalist Dan Wetzel’s criticism of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by Championship.com.

Zhurova drew attention to the fact that there was no official statement from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about the athlete’s positive doping test. In her opinion, the media are to blame for what happened, as they convey false information to readers. “I want this to end as soon as possible. Because the girl will soon perform, but she does not know what is happening, ”said the deputy.

On February 10, Vetzel published an article in Yahoo Sports about Valieva’s doping test scandal. He called the athlete “pumped up with drugs” and criticized the Russian team for continuing to violate anti-doping rules.

Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. It was reported that in the sample of a 15-year-old Russian woman, the banned drug trimetazidine was found. In this regard, the IOC held legal consultations with the International Skating Union and postponed the awards ceremony for the Olympic team tournament. A day later, it became known that Russia would not be deprived of the gold medal in the team competition, and Valiyeva would be allowed to compete in the singles tournament.
