The US Olympic Committee assessed the situation with Valieva

U.S. Olympic Committee public relations director Kate Hartman spoke about the possible use of doping by Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words lead to Twitter USA Today journalist Christine Brennan.

The representative of the organization stressed that she did not have all the information on the case, but felt concerned about this. “In situations like this, it’s not just about gold. It’s about fair sport and responsibility,” she said.

Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. It was reported that in the sample of a 15-year-old Russian woman, the banned drug trimetazidine was found. In this regard, the International Olympic Committee held legal consultations with the International Skating Union and postponed the award ceremony of the Olympic team tournament. A day later, it became known that Russia would not be deprived of the gold medal in the team competition, and Valiyeva would be allowed to compete in the singles tournament.

The American team became the second after Russia in the team figure skating tournament of the Games in Beijing. Valieva’s victorious skates helped the Russians win gold.
