Sporting beats Moreirense for the Portuguese Championship; Porto leader wins Tondela in comeback

This Saturday, the Sporting beat Moreirense, 1-0, in the 9th round of the Portuguese Championship. The match, played at Estádio José Alvalade, featured a goal by Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates, at 16 minutes of the initial stage.

With the result, the team from Lisbon, which has not lost yet, is the vice-leader of the competition and has 23 points. Moreirense, with seven, is in 14th place.

Sporting returns to the pitch on Tuesday, at 5:15 pm (GMT), when it receives Famalicão for the opening round of the Portuguese League Cup. Moreirense, on the other hand, will face Paços de Ferreira, on Monday (11/01), at home, at 6:15 pm, for the national elite.

Porto wins Tondela by comeback and remains in the lead

O Porto beat Tondela, away from home, by 3-1. Borges Neto opened the scoring for the home team after four minutes at Estádio João Cardoso. The visiting team had three goals from Mehdi Taremi to guarantee the victory. The Iranian scored at 19 and 43 of the first half and confirmed the result at 34 of the complementary stage.

With the victory, the team coached by Sérgio Conceição remains undefeated and leads the championship, with 23 points. This Saturday’s opponent, who has nine, is in 11th place.

Porto will return to the field on Tuesday, at 15:00 (GMT), when they face Santa Clara, away from home, for the first round of the Portuguese League Cup. Tondela, in turn, will face Arouca, far from their domains, on Friday, at 4:15 pm, for the national championship.

The third and final match of the Portuguese Championship this Saturday took place at the Estádio de São Miguel, home of Santa Clara. The home club lost to Famalicão, 2-0, with goals from Simon Banza.
