Italians offended by Poles. They downgrade the ratings of the big hit

The creators of Dying Light 2, after the first days of idyll since the release of the game, fell under the fire of criticism from angry fans. These are Italian players who have a very negative opinion about Techland’s production. The reason for dissatisfaction is … lack of Italian dubbing.

Language versions

The second part of the installment offers multiple language versions. 17 variants of subtitles and 11 dubbing are still an impressive number, as many productions still use only a few languages.

Even different varieties of individual dialects were used. Players can choose from both simplified and traditional Chinese. Also for Portuguese, you have the option to choose the language version used in Brazil.

Italians have to be content “only” with subtitles. The authors did not provide a sound setting in their language, although dubbing was prepared, among others. German, French, Spanish or (which is obvious due to the country of production) Polish.

Italy’s indignation was beyond certain limits

The reaction of the Italian gaming community to the omission of dubbing in their language was extremely offensive. Users began to massively leave negative reviews for Dying Light 2 on Metacritic, which quickly lowered the average production rating. Thus, despite the overwhelming number of satisfied recipients, the game currently has a score of 6.5 / 10. The critics themselves on Metacritic gave DL much higher ratings, and on Steam, positive reviews account for over 80% of the total.

The Italians’ comments are merciless. They accused the authors of an ignorant approach to Italian culture and language. In many opinions, individual people even admit that the game is very good, and it deserves higher marks, but they consciously lower them due to their frustration.

There were even cases where offended users spoke critically about the Polish language in the game, suggesting that it is not as important as Italian and that nobody but Poles is interested.

A fairly large storm has developed out of an apparently small matter. Techland has not yet responded to the situation, so one can only speculate as to how the problem will be solved. It is possible that the Italian dubbing will eventually find its way to Dying Light 2, but for now the developers have to somehow mitigate the problem.
