Salsamendi misses quarters in freestyle sprint

Manex Salsamendi Silvacompeting with Brazil, has tried to do well in qualifying for the 1.5-kilometre freestyle sprint test, within the cross-country skiing competition at the Beijing Olympics.

Salsamendi, 19 years old, grown up and trained in Roncal, Today’s qualifying round is over in 71st place, stopping the clock at 3.08.64, 23.61 behind the best time achieved by Frenchman Lucas Chanavat. Already passing through the first part, the 0.6km, Manex was far from the reference positions, marking a 1:26.1 that already placed him in 70th position. The 30 fastest skiers reached the quarterfinals.

The best times of the first batch of the day have been made by the French lucas chanavat (1:14.9), the Russian Sergey Ustiugov (1.16.9) and by an enraged Johannes Klaeb (1:16.7), who was one of the favorites for the skiathlon test, and did not have his day.

In the 15km + 15km skiathlon, the first test contested by Salsamendi at the Zhangjiako National Cross-Country Ski Center, in his Olympic debut on February 6, a test that combines a first part in classic style and a second in freestyle, the Navarrese was forced to leave after being doubled by the leaders of the test, as indicated in the regulations.

Salsamendi, accompanied at the Beijing Olympic Games by Julen Garjon, also from Roncal (his usual coach)you will have a new opportunity andn the 15 km classic on Friday 11th and the 50 km on Saturday 19th February.
