Fetisov described the match between Russia and Canada at the Olympics with the phrase “thank God, no one died”

Two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov commented on the decision to hold the group stage match of the 2022 Olympic tournament in Beijing between the women’s teams of Russia and Canada in medical masks. His words are quoted by Championship.com.

Fetisov considered that each team wanted to protect themselves, as some hockey players passed positive tests for coronavirus. He added that the schedule of the Olympic tournament did not allow to postpone the meeting, so it was decided to play in masks. “They played. No one died, thank God, ”the champion described the meeting with this phrase.

The match between Russia and Canada started an hour later than planned. The reason was the refusal of the Canadians to go on the ice. The rival team demanded the results of tests for the coronavirus of the Russians. As a result, both teams played in medical masks. The match ended with the victory of the Canadian team with a score of 6:1.

Later it became known that two Russians and one Canadian passed positive tests for coronavirus. Team representatives learned about it before the start of the meeting.

Russia will play the next match against Finland. It will be held on February 8 and will begin at 16:10 Moscow time.
