The scandalous match between the women’s teams of Russia and Canada began an hour later by decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) made such a statement on its website.
The organization noted that both teams were tested for coronavirus on the morning of the game, but by the time the match began, data on the results had not been received. In this regard, the leadership of the IIHF decided to postpone the starting throw-in.
“In order to resolve the issue of holding the match, representatives of both teams, together with the IIHF, applied additional security measures by agreeing to play in masks,” the FHR said. They also said that the test results appeared after the second period, so the Russians went to the third without masks. Canadians also decided to leave personal protective equipment.
The match took place earlier on Monday, February 7, and ended with a score of 6:1 in favor of Canada. It was reported that North American women refused to go on the ice.
