CEREMONY
Athletes from 91 national Olympic committees gathered at the stage known as the Bird’s Nest, which for this occasion dressed its grass in ice in a brilliant and colorful opening ceremony.
“One world, one family” (“One World, One Family”) has been the theme of the event, based on an old Chinese saying that says: “A really wise person sees the whole world as a family”. The music, songs, dance, innovative technology and fireworks featured Chinese citizens from Beijing and Hebei province, rather than stars, professional singers, dancers or actors.
Center stage at the venue featured an 11,600-meter HD LED screen, mimicking “the crystal clear surface of ice.” In addition, artificial intelligence was shown using technology of live motion.
For his part, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, praised the athletes for their resilience and the inspiration they have offered to the world through sport.
