Brentford manager Thomas Frank said on Thursday he hopes his new signing Christian Eriksen, who suffered cardiac arrest midway through a European Championship match in June, would return to play in the coming weeks. However, the coach hopes to see him train to be absolutely sure.
The 29-year-old is due to train with his new teammates for the first time on Monday, according to the coach, whose team faces Everton on Saturday in the FA Cup’s fourth round.
“Christian has a solid physical foundation and has done all kinds of tests,” explained Frank. “He ran a lot, trained a lot, did a lot of things in the last few months. His base is good, but it’s another thing to adapt to the rhythm of a game. It’s hard to say when he will be available. I’ll know a lot more after Monday” , he said.
Brentford, 14th in the Premier League, announced the signing of Eriksen earlier this week, seven months after the player suffered cardiac arrest during a match between Denmark and Finland on 12 June.
Eriksen was released by Inter Milan in December. Italian medical regulations do not allow players with an implantable defibrillator to play in Serie A.
