President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev gave advice to Daniil Medvedev after losing to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final. His words are reported by Izvestia.
“I think he needs to take a month off from tournaments. Reboot, go to a gentle mode, ”said the specialist. Tarpischev recalled that before the Australian Open, Medvedev played at the ATP Cup and thus played 15 matches in Australia in 30 days. According to the head of the FTR, this is a lot both physically and psychologically. “If you continue without a pause, it will be very easy to get injured. What would not like this year,” said Tarpishchev.
Medvedev lost to Nadal in the Australian Open final on 30 January. The decisive match of the tournament in Melbourne lasted more than five hours. The meeting ended with a score of 2:6, 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4, 7:5 in favor of the Spaniard. After the final, the Russian complained about the audience, which was rooting for his opponents throughout the tournament.
Medvedev has been defeated in the Australian Open final for the second year in a row. In 2021, he lost to Novak Djokovic. This year, the Serbian tennis player was unable to take part in the tournament. He was deported from Australia before the start of the competition.
Medvedev won the Grand Slam once in his career. It happened at the US Open last year.
