Screenwriter Viktor Merezhko concealed the reason for his hospitalization. This was announced on Facebook by a friend of the director Vitaly Maximov.

“Two weeks ago he told me that he was hit by a car and went to a good medical rehabilitation center for treatment and recovery there, in St. Petersburg, where he lived in his apartment for a long time, only occasionally appearing in Moscow. He asked not to tell anyone about this, because he did not want to be overcome by arrogant “yellow-mouthed gossips” … Of course, I did not spread it, ”he said.

According to Maksimov, when he talked with Merezhko, he noticed that the screenwriter’s voice was somehow hoarse, difficult, obviously weakened.

“I asked what happened to the voice if the hip was injured? He answered with humor that he was pretending to be Andron Konchalovsky. Not a word about any covid…” Maximov said.

Victor Merezhko was born on July 28, 1937 on the Olgenfeld farm in the Rostov Region (now the village of Yuzhny, Azov District, Rostov Region) into a family of rural employees. Merezhko’s debut as a feature film screenwriter was the children’s film “Tigers on Ice” (1971). Over the years of creativity, he created over 70 film scripts. So, the comedy “Kin” and the drama “Flying in a dream and in reality” saw the light. As a director, he filmed the series “Sonka the Golden Hand” and “They Didn’t Wait”.

The screenwriter will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow. It was reported that the cause of Merezhko’s death was complications from the coronavirus.
