Russian biathletes removed from flight to Beijing

Biathletes Irina Kazakevich and Valeria Vasnetsova were not allowed on the flight that was supposed to take the Russian team to Beijing for the 2022 Olympic Games. It is reported by “Match TV”.

Athletes, as well as the head coach of the women’s team Mikhail Shashilov and massage therapist Roman Nikitin, were removed from the flight due to problems with documents. Kazakevich’s QR code turned out to be “red”, which means a ban on entry into China. The remaining members of the delegation were unable to provide the code from the special annex.

The departure of the team members remaining in Russia was postponed for a day. They need to prepare documents confirming that they have been ill with the coronavirus.

It is also reported that the head of the service group of the Russian national team Alexander Pechersky passed a positive test for coronavirus. He did not fly to Beijing, he will be replaced by Dmitry Blinov.

Biathlon competitions at the Olympics will be held from 5 to 19 February. Athletes will compete for 11 sets of awards.
