State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova condemned gender inequality in leadership positions in Russian sports. She is quoted by RB Sport.
“Unfortunately, our society has stereotyped thinking – only men can hold leadership positions in sports,” Zhurova said. In her opinion, Russian society is not ready for women in sports.
Zhurova noted that many women work in sports federations and they understand many issues better than men. “Time will pass, and women will take leadership positions in sports and, possibly, in football,” she said.
On December 26, Zhurova admitted that she was outraged by the fact that many Russian football players are vacationing in foreign resorts during the winter break. She noted that the players can afford to rest in the Maldives, as they receive more than other athletes from among their compatriots. The deputy recalled that, being an athlete and world champion in speed skating, she only once had a rest at the sea.
