“Kamil made it sad. Such a stupid incident!” Stoch’s father about his son’s injury

From Friday to Sunday it will be the next station. It was supposed to be one of the most important points of the season for the Polish team. A very difficult season.

“It takes 2-3 weeks for Kamil to be able to jump”

Our jumpers have been recording poor results since the beginning of the winter of 2021/2022. In two months, we only enjoyed our podium finish once – when he was third in Klingenthal. Recently, Stoch was jumping so poorly that he was pulled out after being eliminated in qualifying in Innsbruck.

After a week of rest from the hill, on Monday Stoch trained at Wielka Krokiew. He was also supposed to jump on it on Wednesday, but he got injured in the warm-up. At first it seemed harmless. But after a while, Stoch’s ankle and entire foot became very swollen, and tests showed rupture of the joint capsule and torn ligaments. – It takes a long time for it to heal 100 percent. It takes 2-3 weeks for Kamil to be able to jump – said the team doctor, doctor Aleksander Winiarski, in an interview with Sport.pl.

“It got so bad that the poor man couldn’t move that foot”

– Kamil wanted to start very much. But the ankle began to swell at a terrifying rate. It got so bad that the poor man couldn’t move that foot – says Bronisław Stoch.

Kamil’s father is a clinical psychologist. He understands very well how difficult his son is now.

– We know that we share these sorrows with Kamil. Luckily, the bone isn’t broken and we hope it heals fairly quickly. The problem is that Kamil depressed it – says Bronisław Stoch.

“He rested from the weight that pressed him down. And suddenly such bad luck.”

– Kamil really wanted to jump for Polish fans. And on this hill where he feels great. He is very fond of the competition in Zakopane. There was enthusiasm in Kamil before these competitions. He felt light. He recovered from the stress, from the weight that pressed him down during the 4-Hills-Tournament. And suddenly such a stupid incident. Such bad luck – he adds.

Kamil Stoch’s father argues that his son could very successfully return to starts in Zakopane after a short break.

This isolation from stress relaxed him a lot. He rested, refreshed his mind. He’s clearly revived. And with new enthusiasm he started the jumps, which looked nice anyway. On Monday he managed to jump really well – says Mr. Bronisław.

“Physically and mentally painful trauma”

– This trauma is painful. Physically and mentally. But maybe Kamil will become even more fresh, even more vigorous, even more hungry. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for him to recover and to do well at the Olympics. May this bad luck be over. Let nothing bad happen – adds Stoch Senior.

The Zakopane competitions will be difficult for the entire Stoch family. – Of course, we were going to the stands, thinking that Kamil would perform. And now maybe we can go to the team. As long as my health allows, because I have problems with my throat – says Bronisław Stoch. – In any case, let’s look for consolation in the fact that every crisis has an end one day. And let’s be aware that every, even a small, improvement brings a change in mood and gives new hopes – she adds.

“Let’s cheer on young Habdas”

In the absence of Kamil Stoch and even greater expectations will fall on. He was already our best jumper in recent competitions.

– Let’s support everyone who will show up in Zakopane competitions. Let’s cheer the young man who jumped into the team in place of Kamil. Let the boy get a chance – says Stoch senior.

– Remember that they are all caught on Wielka Krokiew. That the profile favors them, that they like to jump here – emphasizes Stoch’s father.

“Kamil is able to recover from crises”

But of course our interlocutor does not promise great successes for Poles. He is not trying to convince us that they will suddenly present a spectacular form.

– It is known that after all the successes of the past years, it is not pleasant when we lower the level and when there is no reason to be enthusiastic. But when the boys improve their results even a little, it will be a reason for joy and pride – argues Bronisław Stoch.

It is hard to be patient with the prolonged waiting for this improvement. – But the boys will surely emerge from the crisis in the end. Kamil is able to overcome crises. He has support in his wife and family. We are always close to him. Some coaches also support him. There are people who can really understand him in this difficult situation and can help him – says Mr. Bronisław.

– Of course, the persistence that results from the reflexes of fans is not a surprise. I’m talking about taking shortcuts, about the expectation that it is possible to force a change of situation. Fortunately, such reactions do not dominate. I do not blame the fans or journalists for how they behave in this difficult time for the national team – sums up Bronisław Stoch. – Let’s try to remember that athletes are trying hard. There is no falsification whatsoever in what they do. They give their best even when they are not doing well – he sums up.
