Australian PM explains Djokovic’s deportation

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison commented on Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s decision to re-revoke Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic’s visa. His words are quoted by The Guardian.

Morrison drew attention to the fact that the death rate from coronavirus in Australia is one of the lowest in the world, the economy is one of the strongest, and the vaccination rate is one of the highest. “Australians have made many sacrifices during the pandemic and they have a right to expect that the outcome of those sacrifices will be protected,” he explained the minister’s decision to deport the tennis player.

Earlier on January 14, the Australian authorities canceled Djokovic’s visa and decided to deport him. It was noted that the athlete’s lawyers plan to appeal the decision.

The tennis player is being expelled from the country for the second time, as his visa does not include data on a medical exemption from vaccination against COVID-19. On January 10, Djokovic managed to win the appeal and get the opportunity to take part in the Australian Open tournament, which will be held from January 17 to 30.
