Former footballer of the Russian national team Dmitry Kuznetsov reacted skeptically to the return of Fedor Smolov to Dynamo Moscow. The player spoke in an interview with the Lenta.ru correspondent.
“Dynamo now has a very efficient team, I’m not sure that he will be able to become a player in the first squad and really strengthen the club, perhaps in some moments. It seems to me that “Dynamo” would be better worth taking someone for the future. Of course, I wish him good luck, we know Fedor’s capabilities, we remember how he played for Krasnodar. True, that team had a slightly different kind of football – smart, technical. Dynamo, on the other hand, relies on aggression and speed, ”Kuznetsov said.
The footballer also explained why Smolov decided to stay in Russia. “He is no longer young, abroad he would have to fight for a place not only in the squad, but also in the team, get used to the new environment, new requirements, adapt to a different style of the championship. Here he is in a comfortable environment: in the bosom of his family and in a team that is not alien to himself, ”said Kuznetsov.
He also doubted that Smolov was invited to Dynamo as the leader of the locker room. “In modern football, leadership must be demonstrated on the pitch. As we can see, the coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin adheres to the same opinion. I’m not sure that Smolov is now capable of this role in Dynamo, ”added the former footballer.
On January 11, Dynamo announced the transfer of Smolov from Lokomotiv. The transfer is due to be officially announced on Wednesday 12 January. The forward played for the blue and white from 2006 to 2015.
