The meeting with Atletico Madrid, i.e. two representatives of the Spanish La Liga in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League, was one of the hits of the 20th round of games. Both of them this season are fighting primarily for the top four, which for Atletico is quite a disappointment, as the defenders of the title, unlike Real Madrid or most of all, strengthened even more in the summer.

In the 11th minute of the game, the players took the lead and in what style! Angel Correa took over the ball in the middle of the pitch after the hosts’ mistake. The Argentinian struck without hesitation from about 50 meters and effectively lobbed the hosts’ advanced goalkeeper – Geronimo Rulli.
The guests, however, did not manage to keep the one-goal lead for too long, because in the 29th minute the defender of the Spanish national team Pau Torres brought the equalizer. A few moments earlier, Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno missed a penalty, but Dani Parejo sent the ball into the net. The midfielder of the hosts, however, helped himself with his hand, so the goal was not recognized after the VAR analysis.
In the second half, both teams also scored one goal each. In the 58th minute, Atletico defeated Alberto Moreno, and less than ten minutes later Geoffrey Kondogbia set the score at 2: 2.
After this draw, Atletico is fourth with 33 points. Villarreal, in turn, is in eighth position with 29 points on the account.
