US to send first non-binary athlete to Winter Olympics

The United States will send a non-binary athlete to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics for the first time. This was reported on the website of the US Figure Skating Federation.

Timothy Leduc was included in the American figure skating team, who identifies himself as a gender that falls out of the binary system. Leduc is paired with Ashley Kane-Gribble. In January of this year, the couple became the US champions and qualified for the 2022 Games in China.

It is noted that the skater announced his non-binary gender identity last year. According to NBC, the 31-year-old will be the first open non-binary athlete to compete in the Winter Olympics.

Earlier it was reported that the International Skating Union (ISU) has created rules for those wishing to participate in competitions under its auspices of transgender people. The organization allowed the transition from women’s to men’s figure skating with certain test results for testosterone.
