Atletico Madrid scores midfield goal, but only draws with Villarreal

THE Atlético de Madrid visited Villarreal, this Sunday, and drew 2-2, in a game valid for the 20th round of the Spanish Championship.

With the point conquered, Diego Simeone’s men are in fourth place, with 33 points, while Submarino Amarelo remains in eighth place, with 29.

The visitors’ first goal came just after ten minutes into the first half. Parejo missed the pass and gave it for free to Ángel Correa, who risked a shot from the midfield and scored a great goal.

In the 22nd minute, Villarreal had a chance to equalize from a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Oblak saved Gerard Moreno’s charge and Parejo made the rebound. However, the ball had slipped into the midfielder’s arm and the goal was disallowed after a VAR review. The home team’s real draw came six minutes later. Defender Pau Torres took advantage of the goalkeeper’s rebound, after lifting in the area, and swung the nets.

At 13 of the second half, Alberto Moreno was face to face with Oblak, did not waste and turned the match. However, Atlético managed to equalize the score, in the 22nd minute, with a shot by Kondogbia from the edge of the area. At the end of the game, the midfielder received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Now, Atlético changes its focus and faces Athletic Bilbao, in the semifinal of the Supercopa de España, this Thursday. Villarreal, on the other hand, keep an eye on the League and visit Elche, next Sunday.
