Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday in the FA Cup third round. With that result, the Gunners were eliminated from the tournament, while the City of Nottingham team advanced to the next round.
Even playing at the opponent’s home, Arsenal started the match trying to impose their rhythm of play at the City Ground Stadium. On the other hand, the home team ran into difficulties in creating plays.
However, even dominating the initial stage, Mikel Arteta’s men couldn’t swing the net and went down to the break with zero on the scoreboard.
On the return of the second stage, the situation was reversed. Nottingham Forest started to put pressure on Arsenal and gained control of the game.
After long minutes of strong pressure, the home team managed to break through the Gunners’ block, in the 38th minute, when Ryan Yates was on the back line and crossed in the measure for Lewis Grabban to hit first and score the qualifying goal.
With the goal, Nottingham Forest fans came down and invaded the City Ground lawn to celebrate the moment with the players. The crowd only returned to the stands after intervention by stadium security.
Now, Nottingham Forest will face Leicester in the next phase of the FA Cup. The match should take place between the 4th and 7th of February.
On the other side, Arsenal are eliminated and will only return to the field next Thursday, when they face Liverpool in the first leg of the English League Cup semi-final.
