David Hurtado, at risk of missing the South American Championship and the World Cup due to a fibrillar rupture | Other Sports | sports

The Quito Olympic marcher suffered the injury on December 1 during his participation in the Junior Pan American Games in Colombia.

A fibrillar rupture suffered during the competition in which he won the Pan-American gold in 2021, has doubts about the participation of David Hurtado from Quito, in the 20-kilometer march of the South American Championship next February in Peru and the World Cup in March to come in Oman.

“About the end of the competition at the Panamericano Junior de Cali I felt discomfort, already in Ecuador the doctors verified that I had suffered a fibrillar rupture, which will be evaluated tomorrow, Wednesday, to see if I can start the competitions from next March 8, because this year I have several challenges ”, he pointed out to Efe Hurtado.

The walker assured that “the first quarter of 2022 will be tremendously tight,” so if he receives medical authorization, he will participate in the National Marching Cup, which will be held from January 8 in Machala, which will classify those who complete the marks for the South American Marching Cup to be held between February 4 and 5 in Lima.

The athlete from the capital added that, “the South American Cup in Lima will qualify for the Marching World Cup that will take place between March 3 and 4 in Oman, so it is urgent to achieve the best physical conditions to be able to participate in Oman.”

Hurtado, 23, said that the World Cup in Oman will link qualification with the World Athletics Championships next July, which will take place in the United States, and will continue the plan with the South American Games next October in Asunción, Paraguay.

“Undoubtedly, all these will be fundamental competitions for my plans in the year 2022,” said Hurtado, as they are competitions that will comprise the Olympic qualification cycle for the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024.

Under the technical direction of Xavier Cayambe, his longtime coach, Hurtado participated in the 20 kilometers of the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, ranking 19, and trains “halfway, due to injury” in the park of La Carolina, on the Pista de los Chasquis and at the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium, in Quito.
