With this it enters to compete with Aeroregional in that market.
The first Latam flight arrived this Tuesday, January 4, at the Catamayo (Loja) airport from Quito. The new Quito-Loja route was inaugurated with the presence of national authorities and the Municipality of Loja.
The operation began at 06:07 in Quito. The flight arrived at Catamayo airport around 07:03.
“The presence of Latam with its Quito-Loja route provides the opportunity to improve air connectivity in the southern region of Ecuador,” said Mayor Jorge Bailón.
Latam will use an A319 aircraft to operate on this new route to Loja. These aircraft have 126 seats.
Upon arrival at the Catamayo airport, the plane was greeted with a water arch formed by fire engines.
The flights will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The cheapest fare only allows you to travel with a personal item and you cannot add a carry-on bag at the airport.
With this new route, Latam plans to obtain a share of the market left by Tame, which flew to that destination and which went into liquidation in 2020. Aeroregional also has flights in that city.
The airline, which started with a promotional rate of $ 64 per leg, plans to move more than 15,000 passengers a year between these two cities.
Monica Fistrovic, executive director of Latam in Ecuador, explained that negotiations began for this route in 2019 and the pre-operational work of the airline to be able to reach this day.
“All the operational part is very complex, we have mountains and hills here in front, the sun against it, it is an airport in which we have to be sure to arrive in the best and safest way,” he said.
“If everything goes well and we see that the demand is growing, we are ready, we hope to reach a daily flight until the end of the year,” said Fistrovic. (I)
